About T.A.G. Business Funding

What is T.A.G. Business Funding? +

T.A.G. Business Funding is a minority-owned business funding firm founded by Carlos Torres and based in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. We help small business owners access merchant cash advances and working capital as an independent ISO/broker working with a network of funding partners.

Is there a fee to apply? +

No. The application is completely free. T.A.G. earns a commission from the funder — only if you are successfully funded. There is never any fee charged to the merchant to apply, receive offers, or review terms.

What makes T.A.G. different from a direct MCA funder? +

T.A.G. is an ISO with relationships across our funding partners. We submit your file to multiple funders competitively and present all the offers we receive, so you can choose the best terms. A direct funder only shows you one offer — their own. Working with T.A.G. typically results in better pricing because funders compete for your business.

How does the funding process work? +

The process has three steps: (1) Click "Apply" and complete the short online form, then securely upload your documents through our portal. (2) T.A.G. matches your file with multiple funding partners, and their offers come back to you as they are returned. (3) Choose the offer that fits your business, sign electronically, and funds are wired directly to your business bank account.

Will someone actually contact me after I apply? +

Yes. Carlos or a member of the T.A.G. team will follow up directly, usually within a few hours during business hours. You can also call directly at (330) 238-3003. We do not use automated phone trees — you speak with a real person.

Who is Carlos Torres? +

Carlos Torres is the founder and CEO of T.A.G. Business Funding. He is a minority business owner based in northeast Ohio who founded T.A.G. to give small business owners access to fast working capital with transparent, honest terms. He can be reached directly at (330) 238-3003.

Is T.A.G. Business Funding a licensed lender? +

T.A.G. Business Funding is an ISO (Independent Sales Organization) — we are a broker, not a direct lender. The actual funding is provided by licensed funding partners in T.A.G.'s network. As an ISO, T.A.G. operates under the regulatory requirements applicable to commercial finance brokers in the states where we do business.

Qualification Requirements

What is the minimum credit score required? +

The minimum FICO score is 500. MCA approval is primarily based on monthly revenue and bank deposit history — not credit score alone. Bankruptcies, tax liens, and prior bank turndowns are acceptable in most cases. See our bad credit funding guide.

How much monthly revenue do I need? +

The minimum monthly revenue is approximately $4,000 deposited into your business bank account. Most applicants qualify for 100 to 150% of one month's average deposits. A business with $20,000/month qualifies for roughly $20,000 to $30,000. Higher and more consistent deposits produce larger offers and better factor rates.

How long must I have been in business? +

Most funders require at least 6 months of operating history. Some programs accept businesses as young as 3 months with strong monthly revenue. Startups under 3 months old are not eligible for MCA funding through T.A.G.'s network.

Can I qualify with a tax lien? +

In many cases, yes. Tax liens are reviewed case by case. A federal tax lien with an active IRS payment plan is often acceptable. An active IRS bank levy on your account is generally disqualifying. Submit an application and your specific situation will be evaluated individually.

Can I qualify after a bankruptcy? +

It depends on type and timing. Chapter 7 bankruptcies discharged more than 1 year ago are generally acceptable to most funders. Open bankruptcies (Chapter 11 or Chapter 13 still active) are typically disqualifying. Your T.A.G. representative will review your specific situation.

Can seasonal businesses qualify? +

Yes. Seasonal businesses are evaluated based on their most recent active revenue months. If your business has strong seasons with consistent deposits, those months are used to calculate your qualifying amount. The holdback structure means you repay more during high-revenue periods and less during slow periods.

What industries qualify for MCA funding? +

Most cash-flow businesses qualify, including restaurants, contractors, construction, trucking, retail, auto repair, medical, dental, HVAC, roofing, salons, gyms, landscaping, staffing, and manufacturing. Some restricted industries include adult entertainment, firearms dealers, cannabis (most states), and financial services firms. See the full industry eligibility guide.

Can sole proprietors and home-based businesses qualify? +

Yes. Sole proprietors can qualify with a business bank account showing consistent deposits, a business EIN or SSN, and at least 6 months of operating history. Home-based businesses are evaluated the same way as brick-and-mortar locations — based on revenue, not location.

Can I qualify if a bank already rejected me? +

Yes. Bank rejections are one of the most common reasons business owners come to T.A.G. MCA approvals are based on revenue consistency and deposit history — not the same criteria banks use. A bank decline does not disqualify you.

Can I qualify with bad credit? +

Yes. Bad credit does not automatically disqualify you for a merchant cash advance. The primary approval factor is monthly business revenue. Credit scores as low as 500 are accepted. What matters most is that your business has consistent deposits and has been operating for at least 6 months.

Can restaurants qualify for merchant cash advances? +

Yes. Restaurants are one of the most commonly funded industries through MCA. Funders look at total monthly deposits, not just card volume. Restaurants with $20,000+ in monthly deposits and 6+ months in business typically qualify for $20,000 to $100,000 in working capital.

Can contractors and construction companies qualify? +

Yes. General contractors, specialty contractors, HVAC companies, roofing companies, plumbers, and electricians commonly qualify for MCA funding. Funders understand project-based revenue patterns. Most require 6 months of bank statements and $10,000+ in average monthly deposits.

Can trucking companies qualify for MCA funding? +

Yes. Trucking and freight businesses are eligible for merchant cash advances. Approval is based on total monthly deposits, not load-specific income. Owner-operators and small fleets qualify, provided they have 6+ months of business history and consistent revenue.

Can retail stores qualify? +

Yes. Retail businesses — including clothing boutiques, hardware stores, specialty retailers, and gift shops — commonly qualify for MCA funding. Card volume and total monthly deposits are both acceptable as proof of revenue.

Understanding Merchant Cash Advances

What is a merchant cash advance? +

A merchant cash advance (MCA) is a revenue-based financing product — not a loan. A funder provides a lump sum of capital upfront in exchange for a fixed amount of your future business revenue, repaid via daily or weekly debits from your bank account. Because it is structured as a purchase of future receivables rather than a loan, it is evaluated differently and funded faster than traditional loans. Full MCA guide.

What is a factor rate and how do I calculate my total cost? +

A factor rate is the multiplier used to calculate total repayment. Example: $50,000 advance × 1.30 factor rate = $65,000 total repayment. Factor rates typically range from 1.10 to 1.50 depending on credit profile, industry, and monthly revenue. Use our MCA Calculator to model your exact cost. See real factor rate data.

How does MCA repayment actually work day to day? +

Repayment happens via daily or weekly ACH debits from your business bank account. The amount is set as a percentage of your average daily/weekly deposits — called the holdback, typically 10 to 20%. On a $50,000 advance with 15% holdback and $3,000/day in deposits, you repay approximately $450/day. Repayment slows naturally when revenue drops.

How long does repayment take? +

Most MCA terms run 4 to 18 months depending on advance size, holdback rate, and your revenue volume. T.A.G. provides a written repayment estimate with every offer so you understand the expected timeline before signing anything.

Can I pay off my MCA early? +

Some funders offer early payoff discounts — pay off at 60% of the original term and pay only 90% of the remaining balance. Other funders charge the full factor amount regardless since MCA is a fixed-cost product, not interest-based. T.A.G. discloses the early payoff policy for every offer before you sign.

Will the MCA affect my credit score? +

T.A.G.'s initial application uses a soft credit pull — no FICO impact. Some funders conduct a hard pull during underwriting (disclosed before it occurs). MCA advances generally do not appear on your personal credit report as debt. A UCC-1 filing will appear on business credit checks but is removed when the advance is repaid.

Is collateral required? +

No collateral is required for a standard merchant cash advance. Funders secure the advance via a UCC-1 filing against business receivables — not physical collateral like real estate or equipment. This is a key difference between MCA and most traditional business loans.

How much funding can I receive? +

T.A.G. works with funders offering $10,000 to $5,000,000. Your offer is typically 100 to 150% of average monthly deposits. A business with $30,000/month in deposits might qualify for $30,000 to $45,000 on a first advance. Higher amounts are available for businesses with long track records and strong revenue consistency.

What is a UCC-1 filing and should I be concerned? +

A UCC-1 (Uniform Commercial Code) filing is a standard legal notice filed by the funder that establishes their interest in your business's receivables during the advance period. It shows up on business credit checks. It does not mean you have lost ownership of anything — it simply gives the funder legal priority on your receivables. The filing is released when the advance is repaid.

Application Process

What documents are needed to apply? +

The core requirements are: (1) your last 6 months of business bank statements, and (2) a completed one-page application. No tax returns, P&L statements, or business plans are required for the initial offer. Additional documents may be requested by the funder during underwriting.

Why are 6 months of bank statements required? +

Bank statements are the primary underwriting document. Funders use them to verify monthly revenue, average daily balance, NSF (insufficient funds) frequency, and deposit consistency. A business with high deposits but many NSFs looks different to a funder than one with moderate, consistent deposits. Personal bank statements are generally not accepted.

How long does underwriting take? +

Decisions are returned by the funding provider once your submission is complete. Complex files and higher advance amounts take the provider longer to review. Once you accept an offer and sign the contract, funding reaches your bank account on the provider’s timeline. Funding after provider review is available on some approved files.

What happens if I do not have all my documents? +

Submit what you have. If you have 4 to 5 months of statements instead of 6, some funders will still review the file. T.A.G. will work with you to identify what is missing and which funders may still approve based on available documentation.

Is my information secure? +

Yes. Document uploads are encrypted in transit. Your bank statements and application data are shared only with vetted funders for the purpose of evaluating your application. T.A.G. does not sell, rent, or share your information with third-party marketers.

What happens after I submit? +

Here is the typical sequence: (1) T.A.G. reviews your file — usually within 1 to 2 hours during business hours. (2) Your file is submitted to multiple funders. (3) Offers return once the provider has reviewed your file. (4) A T.A.G. representative calls you to review offers — factor rate, total repayment, holdback, estimated term. (5) If you accept, the funder sends a contract for electronic signature. (6) Funds deposit on the provider’s timeline.

Can I apply online? +

Yes. The application is entirely online at funding.towersassetgroup.com. Complete the short form, upload your last 6 months of bank statements, and submit. You will receive a follow-up call within a few hours during business hours.

Will I need to speak with someone? +

Yes, but only briefly. After your application is submitted, a T.A.G. representative will call you to confirm your information and walk you through the offers received. The call typically takes 5 to 10 minutes. This is not a hard sell — it is a review of what you qualify for.

Trust & Transparency

Will applying hurt my credit score? +

No. T.A.G.'s initial process uses a soft credit pull only — this does not affect your FICO score. Some funders conduct a hard pull during underwriting, but this is always disclosed before it occurs.

Is there any obligation to accept an offer? +

No obligation whatsoever. Submitting an application creates no commitment. You review what you qualify for and decide whether to proceed. There is no pressure, no countdown timer, and no penalty for declining.

What happens if I am declined? +

T.A.G. explains why — to the extent funders share that information — and advises on what you can do to improve fundability. Common reasons include insufficient monthly revenue, excessive NSFs on bank statements, or an active legal judgment. Many declined applicants successfully reapply after 60 to 90 days of improvement.

How does T.A.G. get paid? +

T.A.G. earns a commission from the funding partner — only when a deal is successfully funded. The commission is paid by the funder, not deducted from your advance. In states requiring broker disclosure (California, New York, Utah, Virginia, Georgia), compensation is disclosed in writing as required by law.

Can I apply again after a previous decline? +

Yes. Previous declines do not permanently disqualify you. If your revenue has improved, bank statements show fewer NSFs, or time has passed since a bankruptcy or judgment, your situation looks different to funders. T.A.G. evaluates every new application on its current merits.

How Business Owners Use MCA Funding

Can I use funding for payroll? +

Yes. Payroll is one of the most common uses of MCA working capital. If a slow month has left you short on payroll, MCA funding can bridge that gap far faster than any bank loan. You never have to explain to employees why payroll is late.

Can I use working capital for equipment? +

Yes. Equipment purchases — a restaurant oven, a contractor's truck, a trucking company's trailer, or a salon chair — are common uses of MCA funding. If equipment financing is your primary need, T.A.G. can also explore dedicated equipment funding programs through its funder network.

Can I use it for inventory or seasonal stock-up? +

Yes. Inventory is a primary use case. Retail stores, distributors, and wholesale businesses use MCAs to stock up for high-demand seasons or take advantage of supplier bulk discounts. Because MCA funding moves quickly, you never miss a supplier deal because capital was not ready.

Can I renew my MCA once it is mostly repaid? +

Yes. Many businesses renew once they have repaid 50 to 70% of the original advance. A successful first advance with consistent repayment typically produces better terms on renewal — lower factor rate and higher advance amount. T.A.G. monitors your repayment progress and will reach out when renewal timing is optimal.

Can I use business funding for marketing and advertising? +

Yes. Marketing, Google Ads, social media advertising, SEO, direct mail campaigns, and business development are all acceptable uses of working capital. Funders do not restrict how business owners use the capital — it is your business decision.

Can I use MCA funding for emergency cash flow? +

Yes. Emergency cash flow needs are one of the most common reasons business owners contact T.A.G. — a broken piece of equipment, a slow week, an unexpected supplier payment, or a gap between invoices and income. MCA funding reaches your account after approval, on the provider’s timeline.
