Verdict scoring bands out of 14 qualifying checklist items A single bar from 0 to 14 divided into three bands: 0 to 6 confirmed items is Weak Candidate (red), 7 to 11 is Marginal (amber), and 12 to 14 is Strong Candidate (green). Any disqualifier checked overrides the score. 0-6: Weak 7-11: Marginal 12-14: Strong 0 items confirmed 14 / 14 confirmed Any disqualifier checked overrides the score, regardless of band

Core Business Qualification

In business for 1+ years, or at minimum 6 months with strong revenue
Monthly deposits $15,000 or more: their bank statements show at least $15K/month average
Active business bank account, not using personal checking for business transactions
US-based business with a physical address or verifiable location
Florist in an apron trimming roses at a workbench while a customer waits at the counter
The clients worth flagging are usually the ones whose books already look like this: steady work, a real customer at the counter, just short on timing.

Cash Flow Health Indicators

0-2 NSFs in their most recent bank statement
Positive average daily balance (not consistently near zero)
Deposits occur at least 3-4 times per week (not one large monthly deposit)
No active liens, judgments, or garnishments on the business account

Existing Obligations

0 or 1 existing MCA positions currently active
Current MCA payments (if any) represent less than 20% of monthly revenue
No active merchant processing holdbacks exceeding 15% of daily deposits
Mechanic in blue overalls working at a tool bench in an independent repair garage with a car alongside
A client who can name exactly what the capital is for, equipment, inventory, payroll, tends to have a cleaner file and a faster outcome.

Use of Funds (Clarity = Better Outcomes)

Client can articulate a specific use: equipment, inventory, payroll bridge, expansion, marketing
Requested amount is proportional to monthly revenue (not asking for 5× their monthly deposits)
Use of funds generates revenue or solves a specific cash flow gap, not debt consolidation or personal use

Disqualifiers: Check These Last

If any of these apply, do not refer this client at this time.

5+ NSFs in any of the last 6 months
3 or more active MCA positions currently deducting daily
Active bankruptcy (Chapter 7 or Chapter 11)
Under $4,000/month in average deposits, below minimum threshold
Client needs the advance to pay off other MCA positions: consolidation requests rarely fund well

Making the Referral Conversation: A Script for CPAs

Once you've identified a client who scores positively on the checklist above, here's how to introduce the conversation naturally:

Opening (warm, not salesy)

"I was reviewing your situation and noticed that you're in a position where a working capital solution might help you [grow / bridge the gap / stabilize cash flow]. I partner with a business funding company, T.A.G. Business Funding, and they specialize in fast capital for businesses like yours. Would it be OK if I had them reach out?"

If they ask about cost

"It's more expensive than a bank loan, but T.A.G. works with businesses that can't get bank approval, and they're transparent about the full cost upfront before you sign anything. There's no obligation just to see what you qualify for."

If they say they don't need capital right now

"That's fine, it's good to know what you qualify for before you need it. Most business owners wish they'd applied before a crisis rather than during one. I can have T.A.G. do a soft pre-qualification with no impact to your credit if you want to know your options."

Disclosure Reminder

You receive a referral fee when T.A.G. funds your client. Best practice is to disclose this relationship when making the introduction: "I should mention, I have a referral partnership with T.A.G. and receive a commission if they fund your business. That said, I only refer clients I believe are a genuine fit." Transparency builds trust and protects you from any regulatory concerns.
