Application Readiness
Most of what slows down or sinks a merchant cash advance application has nothing to do with whether the business genuinely qualifies. It's incomplete documents, mismatched information, and details that were never disclosed. Here's what actually causes delays and declines, and exactly what to do differently.
Most MCA application delays come from document problems, not eligibility problems: incomplete or illegible bank statements, a business name mismatch, or a missing voided check. Most declines come from what the bank statements actually show: frequent NSFs, a negative average daily balance, too little time in business, or an undisclosed existing advance. A complete, accurate document set submitted upfront is the single biggest thing an applicant controls.
These are document and process issues — not reasons a business would be declined, but reasons a decision takes longer than it should.
These come from what the bank statements actually show, not from the paperwork itself.
Incomplete or illegible bank statements. Underwriters need 3–6 consecutive months of the actual business checking account — missing a month, submitting a personal account instead of the business account, or submitting a low-resolution phone photo instead of a PDF are the most frequent causes of delay. Downloading PDF statements directly from your bank's online portal avoids nearly all of this.
Yes. If the business name on the application does not match the business name on the bank statements or the entity name on file with the state, underwriters have to stop and manually verify which entity is actually applying. Using the exact legal name from your bank statements on the application avoids this.
Revenue is one factor, not the only one. Frequent NSF charges, a negative average daily balance, very short time in business, or an undisclosed existing advance can all lead to a decline even when monthly deposits look healthy on the surface.
No, but not disclosing it does cause real problems. Underwriters can see existing ACH debit patterns on the bank statement regardless of whether it was mentioned. Disclosing it upfront lets a lender structure the deal correctly, or decline quickly and honestly.
Most complete, correctly-documented applications get an initial decision within 24 hours. Delays happen specifically when documents are missing, illegible, or inconsistent with the application — a complete document set submitted upfront is the biggest lever an applicant has over their own timeline.

T.A.G. Business Funding is an ISO (Independent Sales Organization) working with a network of MCA funding partners. We are not a direct lender. Funding decisions are made by third-party lenders based on their own underwriting criteria. Not all applicants will qualify, and meeting the general patterns described above does not guarantee approval, a specific offer, or specific terms. This page is educational and describes common industry patterns, not a review of your specific application.
